GASTROINTESTINAL / COLORECTAL DYSFUNCTION

Constipation and associated problems of soiling and anal pain are very common in children although often underestimated. Occasionally this  leads to a significant negative impact on a child’s ability to socialise, engage in school activities, develop and can ultimately continue on into adult life.

Occasionally there is an underlying surgical cause for these problems, but most commonly there are multi-factorial elements that need to be addressed.

I can assess children with severe intractable constipation  to rule out an underlying physical cause  and provide a range of interventions including Botox injection to the anal sphincter and the MACE procedure in carefully selected cases.
